Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 7, 2026
Coursity turns your course materials into a personal AI tutor. Doing that requires handling your study data with care. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, who touches it, and how to get it deleted. The one-sentence version: your materials and study data power your own tutor — we don’t sell them, and we don’t use them to train AI models for other people.
What we collect
- Account details — name, email address, phone number (used once to verify your account by SMS), and a password (stored only as a secure hash).
- Course content you upload — syllabi, lecture slides, readings, notes, and audio recordings you choose to transcribe.
- Study activity — your tutor conversations, quiz and drill results, mastery progress, and preferences from the onboarding questionnaire.
- Billing details — handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number; we keep only your subscription status and plan.
- Technical data — logs needed to keep the service working (errors, request metadata) and, when enabled, privacy-respecting product analytics.
How we use it
- To build and run your courses: parsing your syllabus, organizing topics, grounding the tutor’s answers in your actual materials.
- To personalize teaching: your quiz results and chat history shape how the tutor explains things to you.
- To operate the service: authentication, billing, transactional email (verification, receipts, course-ready notices), and abuse prevention.
- To improve Coursity in aggregate — never by training models on your identifiable content for other users.
AI processing
Tutor responses are generated by Anthropic’s Claude models via API — Anthropic does not use API content to train its models. Audio you record is transcribed by Deepgram, and we opt every transcription request out of Deepgram’s model-improvement program, so your recordings are not used to train their models either. Your content is sent to these providers only when you use the relevant feature (asking the tutor a question, recording a note).
Who processes your data
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, and file storage (US region) |
| Anthropic | AI tutoring responses |
| Deepgram | Audio transcription for notes |
| Stripe | Payments and subscriptions |
| Twilio | One-time SMS verification at signup |
| Resend | Transactional and account email |
| Vercel | Application hosting |
| PostHog | Product analytics (usage patterns), when enabled |
Each provider receives only what its job requires. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Retention and deletion
Your data stays as long as your account does. Delete a course and its materials, chats, and progress go with it. To delete your entire account and all associated data, email hello@coursity.ai from your account email — we complete deletion requests within 30 days. Backups age out on a rolling basis after that.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or delete it at any time. If you’re in a jurisdiction with specific privacy rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar), those rights apply and we honor them — same email, no forms, no runaround.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to your content is scoped to your account through row-level security in our database, and your uploaded files live in private storage readable only by you and the systems that process them for you.
Age
Coursity is built for college students and requires you to be at least 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we materially change this policy, we’ll email the address on your account before the change takes effect and update the date at the top of this page.
Contact
